OCC STUDENTS MOVE IN

This Saturday the first of over 600 students will move in the "Dorms" Class begins Monday the 30th. OHFD would like to welcome all back to school.


 
RAIN STORM POUNDS THE CNY

All day long a steady to some times heavy rain fell blanketing the area causing flooding. A call into OHFD station around 7:30pm for water in the basement was received. Car 1 & the Rescue Pumper handled the call and tried removing the 6' of water in the home owners house. An EMS call was also handled during the 90 minute water issue.


 
ROLL OVER CRASH

OHFD alerted for a car accident on Griffin Road near Malone. Car 1 and the Rescue Pumper arrived to find a car on its roof down a 40' embankment. The driver was out of the vehicle and refused EMS care. OHFD Volunteers waited till the tow truck could upright the crushed car.

At our August business meeting the membership voted in a record number of new members to our ranks. Some of these members have previous experience from other fire depts they were in. As a "RAM" Restricted Active Member,  Brandon DeVendorf. As fire Fighter/EMT we welcome Anna Schmidt and Marilyn Carr. As fire fighters Howard Carr 3rd, his son Howard the 4Th and his daughter Sarah. Also joining us with experience from the Geneva FD, Adam Croglia. Welcome all.


 
WELCOME BUNK IN'S

This Saturday OHFD welcomes our 2010-2011 OCC live in bunk in's to our Boyle Drive bunk house. This is our 2nd year of our program. Welcome back Chris Bush from the Preston FD, Also Dan Mabbitt  (Mohawk FD) who was a rider last year with OHFD. Also coming on board is Andy Churchman who is new to us. While these students are enrolled in the OCC Fire Protection program they will exchange on duty shift time for free room & board. Some of there duties will be keeping the fire station and Boyle drive home clean. These fire fighters are already trained and will benefit our residents immediately. All of us here at OHFD would like to welcome all three of you to our Fire Dept.


 
3 STUCK IN ELEVATOR

OHFD Rescue units alerted for a stuck elevator at the main Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Rescue Pumper 2 went enroute with 5 volunteers. Engine 3 followed with 3. Units arrived and got a run down by security. The number 8 elevator in the north center tower was stuck someplace between the 2nd and sixth floor. After an investigation crews found the stalled car just below the 4th floor. After talking with the three people (2 in wheel chairs) it was determined that no medical emergecnies were present. Command called for Otis elevator repair tech to the scene. After 90 minutes the occupants of the stuck elevator car were extracted. No injury's reported and all units cleared by 19:30hrs.


 
BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE

Well here is an update. On Wed. night 8-11-10 members cleared out the 2nd floor game room and bunk room. Contractors started framing on Thursday. We will be getting the office area and new day room/kitchen area before the end of August. Here are some pictures.

WILD CAR CRASH AT VAN DUYN HOSPITAL

Units alerted for a MVC in the East parking lot at the main Van Duyn building. Car 1, RP-2 arrived to find one car in the middle of the parking lot and a 2nd up on the lawn on top of a parked van. OHFD & Rural Metro EMT's checked everyone out. No injury's. Units cleared in 25 minutes.


 
GRILL FIRE IN TAUNTON

Engine 3 & Squad 5 responded to Taunton on a special mutual aid to Howlett Hill Road near Cedarvale Road on a BBQ grill fire in the back yard. This was due to a large amount of Taunton members attended a family outing to Dairen Lake NY. Taunton Car 2 & 3 arrived to find a grill in the back yard burning. OHFD Eng 3 arrived and used a dry chem to knock down the fire then using the home owners garden hose to "wet" things down. Units cleared in 20 minutes. No injury's reported.


 
SPECIAL MEETING

On Monday Aug 9 at 7pm, right before drill, we will have a special membership meeting for voting in many new members. Please attend. drill will follow after meeting.


 
2 EMERGENCY ALARMS AT ONCE

Right before 6pm, OHFD  pagers went off to handle 2 alarms. One being a unknown EMS problem at Van Duyn  (found to be chocking on food) and the other was a suicide attempt at OCC in a car. Rescue 1 with 2 volunteers and Squad 5 with 4 volunteers  took care of the calls. Just a typical evening here at the OHFD.


 
   
   
SCBA FILL STATION/COMPRESSOR OUT OF SERVICE

OHFD Members shall be advised that the SCBA bottle fill system is out of service. New unit will be installed late next week. We will be going to Taunton FD to fill SCBA bottles when needed.The new compressor fill station will also have 4 new large (6000psi) storage bottles, a new 3 bottle fill station and a regulated reel mounted hose line in the station near the rear of truck 4 to fill tires, run tools and recharge H2-0 water fire extinguishers.


 
AUGUST BUSINESS MEETING

The regular August business meeting of the fire dept will be this Monday at the old fire station. Meeting starts at 7pm sharp. We will be voting in several new members.


 
CO ALARM ON RENEE MEADOWS DRIVE

OHFD & Taunton alerted for a CO alarm sounding with no illness. Car's 1 & 3 arrived first followed by the Rescue Pumper. Taunton was secured. After a lengthily investigation, it was determined that a smoke detector had gone off and then became defective. Home owner was advised to replace the detector and install a CO alarm because none were present. All units cleared by 6am.
